Dr Mike Loh has blogged about Aoki before. A few times in fact. What's so amazing about Aoki is the bill. I mean, how can japanese food be so expensive?! We're talking about lunch for 2 at S$800!
I had never been to Aoki before, until a few days back. Dr Mike Loh invited me to Aoki for lunch. He said a few weeks ago that we'd go when the truffles arrive. And yes, they did arrive and Dr Mike Loh made the arrangements.
Aoki is located at a corner at Shaw Centre. And when you enter, you'll be greeted with great hospitality. The service staff are all good looking and very professional. And I noticed a certain power in the air amongst the patrons. The diners at the counter were made up of either powerful businessman or the very well-groomed tai tais. I was so glad that I wore my Coco Chanel inspired suit for the occasion.
Dr Mike Loh and I sat at the counter. And we had an omakase lunch. (left it to the chef to serve us a variety of sushi, sashimi and cooked food). The highlights from the lunch were the huge delicious oyster, fresh uni (sea urchine), sliced toro (ooh lala!) and the decadent shaved (not your light shavings, but almost like slices) truffles with white fish in truffle oil. I took my time to savour every bits of the truffles. I thought I was in heaven!
And I must say they're extremely generous when it comes to the uni sushi. The uni was stuffed in the seaweed on top of the rice. I took a picture of it! You'll know what I mean!
Oh, the Japanese fruit platter was so gorgeous! There was melon, peach, grapes and cherries. And everyone of those fruits are extremely sweet and yummy!
I managed to snap a few pictures in between the indulgence and also the wonderful chat I had with Dr Mike Loh.
Dr Mike Loh, thanks for the wonderful lunch! Totally enjoyed the food, the company and the experience. :)

Those green stuff floating around looked and felt like tadpoles in my mouth!
It's overflowing with uni!!!Someone who's close to me decided to pay Aoki a visit after I told him about my invitation. We exchanged notes after our separate trips to Aoki. Told him to look out for the truffles and oysters! He had more dishes since he went for dinner, instead. The price of dinner for 3 persons was S$2,000 (inclusive of sake). :X We both agreed that the food was awesome, service was good, ambience was excellent (and powerful), but the price - jaw dropping!
Aoki has since been rated by me as the most expensive Japanese restaurant in Singapore. There's really no other restaurant close to its price range!
